Joyce Vincent, a 38-year-old woman, died alone in her Wood Green, North London flat in Dec 2003, likely due to an asthma attack or health complications. The shocking part is, no one noticed she was gone for nearly 3 years. Her body was only found in Jan 2006 when officials repossessed her flat due to unpaid rent.

She was found on the sofa, TV still on, with wrapped Christmas presents nearby, meant for her family. Despite living in a busy building above a shopping center, neighbors thought the bad smell was from outside bins.

Joyce had slowly withdrawn from friends and family, who didn’t realize she’d stopped engaging. Her story inspired the 2011 doc ‘Dreams of a Life’, highlighting hidden loneliness in cities.

The big question: if something happened to you today , who’d check on you quickly?
